Updated cards roll out for standard and summer EBT programs

DENVER (Sept. 16, 2026) — The Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) has begun rolling out a new design for Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards. Effective Sept. 1, 2026, all new or replacement cards requested directly through EBT Customer Service or ebtEDGE online are being issued with the updated design. Local county human services offices will transition to the new cards once their current card inventories are exhausted.

New EBT card design

The Colorado EBT card delivers Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Summer EBT, and cash assistance payments to eligible Coloradans. The updated look applies to both standard EBT cards (SNAP and Cash Assistance) and Summer EBT cards:

Standard EBT Cards: Display the Colorado logo design with no text on the front.

Summer EBT Cards: Look identical to the standard card, but explicitly feature the text "Summer EBT" on the front.

“We are excited to introduce a fresh, modern look for Colorado’s EBT cards,” said Shelley Banker, director of the Office of Economic Security. “Our goal is to ensure that every Coloradan accessing public assistance feels supported and empowered. This new design is something our clients can carry with pride as they access the essential food and cash benefits that help their families thrive.”

Existing cards remain active

Current cardholders are not required to replace their cards if they are still functional. Existing EBT cards—including older cards—remain fully valid for purchasing food and accessing benefits at authorized retailer checkout stands. Clients should only request a new card if:

  1. Their current card is lost, damaged, or stolen.
  2. They are still using an older card with the Colorado Quest Card label.
How to request a replacement card

Clients needing a replacement card can request one through the following channels:

  • By phone: Call EBT Customer Service at 1-888-328-2656 (also listed on the back of existing cards).
  • Online: Log in at www.ebtEDGE.us or use the ebtEDGE or MyCOBenefits mobile apps.
  • In person: Go to your local county human services office during business hours.

Note: EBT cards mailed by EBT Customer Service will arrive with the new design.  EBT cards issued for in-person pickup at local county human services offices will not be immediately available with the new design, as the newly designed cards will be phased in.

Protecting your benefits against fraud

CDHS urges all EBT cardholders to stay vigilant against benefit theft. Fraudsters may call or text claiming that an EBT card or benefit account has been suspended or deactivated, asking the cardholder to provide their PIN.

REMINDER: NEVER SHARE YOUR PIN. No one from the state, county human services office, our EBT vendor FIS, or a legitimate retailer will ever ask for your PIN.

To keep benefits secure:

  • Freeze your card using the ebtEDGE or MyCOBenefits mobile app when you’re not using it.
  • Keep your card number and 4-digit PIN completely secret.
  • Report suspicious activity to your local county human services office immediately.

If you suspect your EBT card has been compromised, change your PIN immediately via the app or EBT Customer Service. If you have shared your card number and PIN with an unverified source, request a replacement card right away. If your benefits have been stolen, contact local law enforcement to file an incident report, as stolen benefits would be considered theft.
