October 1, 2026 - The State Board of Human Services (SBHS) is a nine-member, governor-appointed, senate-confirmed rulemaking body created pursuant to C.R.S. § 26-1-107. The Board holds public hearings and establishes rules and policies governing human services programs administered across Colorado—including child welfare, public assistance, adult protection, and behavioral health services.

The State Board of Human Services is seeking applicants to fill upcoming board vacancies for terms beginning in March 2027. Candidates must be Colorado residents and satisfy the statutory qualifications for at least one of the open seats below:

  • County Commissioner Seats (3): Candidates who are currently serving as county commissioners.
  • Behavioral Health Representative (1): Candidates with expertise or direct experience in behavioral health programs or advocacy.
  • Public-at-Large / Community Seats (1): Public members interested in rule development and public human services policy.

Ideal candidates are community-minded leaders interested in participating in the state’s human services rulemaking process to ensure policies are effective, equitable, and transparent. We strongly encourage applicants from rural, rural resort, and tribal communities across Colorado to apply.

To apply, complete the Governor's Office of Boards and Commissions Application by November 10, 2026.
